ABOUT

WHO WE ARE
Choral Music Week (CMW) is a one-week spectacle! Scheduled to run annually in the first week of June, from Tuesday to Saturday. Cities will come alive with a diverse range of choral music performances, choral master classes, rehearsals, engagements and will be buzzing with vendors and interactive activities, making CMW a truly immersive experience.
CMW goes beyond celebrating choral music; it serves as a platform for the exchange of creative ideas and a bridge for cultural diplomacy. This initiative highlights the power of collective singing as a tool for artistic excellence, cultural preservation, personal development, and social connection. It transforms a week into a festival of voices united in harmony.

MISSION
To widely promote, develop, and celebrate the art of choral singing in Nigeria and Africa through providing high-quality performance opportunities, while offering educational workshops and masterclasses. We aim to encourage the creation and performance of new choral works, building inclusive communities through music and raising awareness of the benefits of choral participation for mental health, discipline, teamwork, and cultural appreciation.
PURPOSE OF THE INITIATIVE
Choral Music Week addresses several key needs in today’s Nigerian musical and social landscape:
-
Revitalizing Choral Traditions: In an era dominated by digital entertainment, it reaffirms the irreplaceable live experience of voices blending in harmony.
-
Skill Development: It offers structured training for singers and choir conductors of all levels.
-
Cultural Exchange: It brings together participants from different regions, backgrounds, and traditions to share repertoire and experiences.
-
Community Impact: It engages local audiences, schools, and institutions, using music as a bridge for social cohesion.
-
Artistic Innovation: It balances the performance of classical masterpieces with contemporary and culturally diverse works.
CORE ACTIVITIES
Performances: Gala concerts, massed choirs, themed evenings (e.g., sacred music, folk traditions, contemporary works), and school/youth showcases.
Workshops & Masterclasses: Vocal technique, choral conducting, repertoire interpretation, sight-singing, and music technology.
